Synopsis:
Tehran. Present day.
After the death of his wife and facing the onset of Alzheimer’s Mr Safari, an eighty-year-old pensioner, decides to visit his son, who lives abroad and cannot return home for security reasons.
Sara, a young woman working in a travel agency, is given the task of organising Mr Safari’s travel arrangements.
But then Mr Safiri falls in love with Sara, gives up all ideas of travelling and
decides, before his memory completely fails, to express his love for Sara at any price, even if it involves murder.

Director’s Statement:
A Very Ordinary Citizen is the continuation of the exploration that began in my previous films, Rainy Seasons (2010) and Parviz (2012): a portrayal of the stressful and mundane portions of urban life in Tehran and an examination of the destructive aspects of human nature, which form part of my society.
In line with my previous films, it is also an exploration of a particular form of cinema: a largo piece through which the story unfolds obliquely and at a slow pace, with no big dramatic moment (even the murder scene will be ordinary and banal, just like life itself), which allows us to live along with its characters as things occur to them.
This unconventional romance/crime drama was shot in long takes, following the characters through their environment in order to reflect their consternations and obsessions.
