Biography:
Ghasideh Golmakani was born in Tehran, into a family of artists and film critics. At eighteen, she moved to Paris to study art, completing her PhD with a dissertation entitled ‘The Struggle of Iranian Women Filmmakers Before and After the Revolution.’
After returning to Iran, she began her filmmaking career with documentaries and behind-the-scenes films for prominent directors. She then directed a dozen fiction short films exploring the taboos embedded in deeply traditional sectors of Iranian society.
Her work addresses issues such as street harassment, child abuse and the everyday violence experienced by women in Iran.
Several international festivals have screened her films, while at others she has curated cinematic programs dedicated to Iranian women filmmakers.
